Hi and welcome! My name is Melissa and I operate a small licensed family child care home in a family centered, play based environment. If you are looking for child care in the Lansing, MI area, this is the home to come to! I have been working with children for over 27 years and really enjoy being able to have an impact in children's lives! I have an Associates Degree in Child Development and I also take ongoing classes involving child development and family studies. I am a 3 Star home through Great Start to Quality, Michigan's tiered program. I am CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certified and adhere to all licensing standards. I offer warm, quality care in my home and have a small group size which allows for more one on one time between the children and myself.
My philosophy is that children learn both through play and through the interactions with others. Here, my program is child centered, play based enriched. I cater to children ages six months to five years (not yet in Kindergarten). My GOAL is to prepare littles, socially and emotionally, for Preschool or Kindergarten when they are ready to attend! I teach SOLID basic foundations that ready children to be life long learners. We do all this in a loving play based, home like learning environment that is child directed.
In my child care home, my belief is that children learn through teachable moments; children learn lessons that are hidden in their play. For example, making dinner in the kitchen area and dividing a pizza in half for two friends or counting how many blocks are in the tower they just built is math related, using their imaginations to become someone else in the dress up area is art related, playing with animals and making the sounds that they make is science related, by doing process art, music, sensory exploration, going outside, and just being a kid, develops the whole child; the list goes on and on!
Self help skills are also practiced throughout our day so that children will be able to succeed at doing simple self tasks such as putting on articles of clothing, helping to prepare snack, practicing eating with utensils, following directions-within age limits, putting dishes in the sink, etc...
All activities are developmentally age appropriate and are modified for each age so that every child can participate, even the babies!
I have a fenced in fun playground and live in the back of a low traffic, quiet neighborhood. We take occasional walking field trips, but do not go on any that involve a motor vehicle.

I am married and have 3 children at home. In my spare time I love to go camping, boating, and spending time with my family and friends!
